WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAT PILATES AND REFORMER PILATES?

Are you wondering what the difference is between Reformer Pilates and traditional Mat Pilates? While both focus on strength, control, and body awareness, there are some key differences.

Mat Pilates: Traditional mat-based Pilates is performed on the floor using a mat and sometimes small props like bands, balls, or rings. It focuses heavily on core strength, stability, and controlled movement using only your own body weight as resistance.

Reformer Pilates: Reformer Pilates uses a reformer machine with springs and straps to add resistance and support. In a Reformer class, you can perform a wider variety of exercises that strengthen, stretch, and tone the body in a highly controlled way. The adjustable resistance makes it suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners.

SHOULD YOU CHOOSE A MAT PILATES CLASS OR REFORMER PILATES CLASS?

If you’re looking for effective yet challenging practice that builds strength and improves posture, Pilates Reformer classes are a great option. Mat Pilates is ideal if you prefer a mat-based workout with focus on bodyweight exercises, while Reformer Pilates provides more versatility, precision, and resistance training.

At Ohmyoga in Copenhagen, you can explore both forms and discover which style best supports you and your body. Whether on the mat or on the reformer, Pilates is an effective way to strengthen your core, improve flexibility, and boost your overall well-being.
